Registrar-OC now supports ICANN's Registrar Data Escrow (RDE)
HEXONET is pleased to announce that Registrar-OC is now compliant with ICANN's Registrar-Data-Escrow policy.
Under the data escrow provision of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA), all ICANN-accredited registrars must regularly deposit a backup copy of their gTLD registration data with ICANN. This archiving of data ensures that in the event of a registrar's failure (i.e., termination or expiration of accreditation), the data held in escrow may be revealed to ICANN in order to facilitate the transfer domains from a failed registrar to another registrar in good standing. Registrar-Data-Escrow (RDE) is now mandatory for all ICANN-accredited registrars.

New ccTLD .ME coming soon. Pre-registration starts April 25th 2008
Shortly after Montenegro gained its independence in June 2006, Montenegro submitted an application to IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) for delegation of the .ME Top-Level-Domain. In September of 2007 the delegation was finally approved and today pre-registrations are about to start!
Montenegro will be marketing .ME as a generic name space in order to gain world-wide mass appeal.
"Because .ME is about YOU" .ME has incredible potential for Internet users world-wide. Think about it, with a .ME domain, the Internet will, quite simply, be all about YOU. For the first time in Internet history, domain names are essentially personal.
.ME is expected to be utilized as both a personalized Web address and as a catchy business marketing tool around the world, initially in English followed by localized and standards compliant International Domain Names in, for example, Spanish, Italian, and Montenegrin.

Minimum Character Length
The minimum length of a .ME domain name will be three characters. One-character and two-character domain names shall be blocked from registration, and reserved for future registration and use as determined by the Registry.
Numeric Domains
All second-level domain names which are comprised solely of numeric strings of at least 5 characters in length shall be blocked from registration, and reserved for future registration and use as determined by the Registry.
IDNs
IDNs will not be allowed until further notice. All domain names with hyphens in the third and fourth positions are prohibited in the registry. Before IDN registrations are made available, the government and the registry will designate reserved IDN names.

.ASIA success
The success story of .ASIA continues and HEXONET, with its resellers, are a part of this success.
On March 26th 2008, the .ASIA registry officially opened their doors for registrations on a first-come-first-serve basis. The registry received an average of 10.000 daily .ASIA registrations over the first five days after "GoLive". Since then, the registry continues to add an additional 2.000 to 4.000 new domains every day. Among the top countries registering .ASIA domains, Chinese registrants are leading the pack followed by Australian, New Zealand, Indian and Korean registrants. Registrations from the US and Japan are also in the top 10.
For the first time, an auctioning model was employed to ensure equitable allocation of domains with two or more Landrush applications. These auctions are about to be scheduled and a notice will be made shortly. Currently over 45.000 domains received are in "auction" status. The entire domain industry is actively monitoring the results of the Landrush auctions. If the auction model proves to be successful, this format will most likely be applied to many future TLD introductions.

IPv6 - HEXONET nameserver is ready!
In February 2008, IANA (Internet for Assigned Names and Numbers) implemented the first IPv6 IP addresses in 6 of the world's 13 root nameservers.
The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is a critical step in ensuring the resilience, expansion and future development of the internet. Most importantly, with the number of IP addresses running out, IPv6 will allow the address space to grow from 4 billion to 340 trillion IP addresses. The domain industry is exploding and more IP addresses will be necessary in the coming years. With IPv6 compliancy, the IP address problem is no longer an issue.
HEXONET, one of the industry's technology leaders, has already prepared for the move from IPv4 to IPv6: additional to the IPv4 IP address, our nameserver ns3.hexonet.net now also contains an IPv6 IP address. So, users who use our DNS cluster may now also use the IPv6 address.
Domains Worldwide
Looking back at 2007, it is amazing to see that over 153 million domains were registered worldwide. While other industries were experiencing a downturn, the domain business grew an incredible 33 percent. The total base of ccTLDs (country code top-Level-Domains) was approximately 58 million, a 33 percent increase and a solid 6 percent quarterly increment. Scanning gTLDs (generic Top-Level-Domains) and ccTLDs together, as expected, .com had the highest number of domains. The TLDs .de (Germany), .net, and .cn (China) followed respectively, and rounding out the list were .uk (United Kingdom), .org, and .info.
Many ccTLDs had extremely impressive growth rates. For example .cn, .ru (Russian Federation), .es (Spain) and .tv (Tuvalu) experienced double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of 2007 compared to the previous quarter. Additionally, four of these ccTLDs grew more than 50 percent during the year. The growth rate results were as follows: .cn (399%), .ru (61%), .es (52%) and .tv (51%). The success of these individual domains is a result of key factors. The official registry for .cn (CNNIC) continued its policy of aggressive price promotions throughout the year, while .ru simply benefited from the explosion of the Internet and technology within its borders. As for .es, the fruits of liberalizing their registration requirements a few years ago are beginning to show. In addition, VeriSign (the official registry for .tv) successfully established .tv as the domain of choice for media content through several high profile campaigns.

.INFO Awards for German-speaking .INFO Website
Afilias the official registry for the gTLD .INFO recognizes the best German-speaking .INFO Sites and offers 18.000 EURO reward to the winners.
Munich, Germany - March 17, 2008: From March 17 to May 25 owners of German-speaking .INFO-Websites can apply for the .INFO-Award that will award 18.000 Euro in prize money later this year. According to the DotAsia Organisation they received a total of 266,663 domain applications within the first 24 hours demonstrating great interest from around the world to stake claims in the most prestigious cyber real estate in Asia.

Starting with March 3rd 2008 12:00 UTC, we are offering purely numeric .NL domain names. Numeric domain names are entirely made up of numbers (e.g. 1234.nl), or of numbers separated by hyphens (e.g. 12-34.nl). Numeric domain names have the same price as regular .NL domains.
