In Times Like These, the .ORG Community is Needed More Than Ever
In collaboration with our friends at PIR.
Few could deny that 2020 has been a year unlike any other. From confronting a global pandemic to fighting for racial justice and equality, this year truly has spawned a multitude of challenges that have been unprecedented in scale and global impact.
If there was ever a time where the .ORG Community was needed, this is it.
We’ve seen so many .ORGs step up to meet adversity head-on during this time. From organizations that have been addressing social injustice and creating initiatives and programs to rise up people of color, like Color of Change and Common Ground Foundation, to those providing support, education, and much-needed relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, like the American Nurses Foundation and Perfect Strangers. The sheer number of .ORGs working to help the world overcome these significant challenges is simply mind-boggling.
As the “People Behind .ORG”, we are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication—and most importantly—the impact that they are having on the communities they serve.
For more than three decades, organizations like these—those who strive day in and out to make a positive impact on the world around them—have made their online home at .ORG. These organizations work tirelessly to fulfill their respective missions; they care deeply about the people they serve and truly live for the causes they support and promote.
At Public Interest Registry (PIR), we care about .ORGs and supporting the entire .ORG Community however we can. We live to make sure that these amazing organizations can achieve their goals and ultimately make the world a better place for us all.
So how do we make sure that the .ORG Community has what it needs?
PIR provides support in a plethora of ways; by promoting .ORGs and their various missions through our .ORG Story Program, recognizing and rewarding exemplary .ORGs during our annual .ORG Impact Awards celebration, making resources and development opportunities available through our global Education and Outreach program, and providing a stable and secure online platform from which they can do their good work.
We’re also working hard to make sure that .ORG is the highest quality and most abuse-free domain available through a number of industry-leading initiatives, including the Framework to Address Abuse program and working with the FDA on their recently announced pilot program to stop the illegal availability of opioids online.
If you’re a .ORG, we encourage you to take part in many of the opportunities available. Nominate your .ORG for this year’s .ORG Impact Awards—there are 10 award categories with a top donation award of up to $30,000. Sign up to be a featured .ORG Story and help us highlight and share your mission and good work with the world. Learn more about some of our Education and Outreach programs, like last year’s .ORG Community Forum.
In the extraordinary world of today, the .ORG Community is needed more than ever. PIR is dedicated to doing whatever we can to make sure it continues to be a strong and vital force for good in the world, and we’re honored to have so many impactful organizations choose .ORG as their online home.
